This post is part of Five Minute Fridays, hosted by the wonderfully gracious Kate. Every week, writers from all over the world gather to write on a one word prompt for five minutes at a time. No backtracking, no editing, and then you go and comment on other people’s blog posts. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to build community with others.
Today’s word is real.
Real – Truth – Honesty. To me, they are all related. My momma always told me that it was hard to read a person’s emotions and intentions through the internet and over the computer screen, so to be careful. To me, that meant, be yourself and always be honest and truthful. I’ve seen many people try to be who they aren’t. They try to pretend that they are someone else entirely different. In fact, they have entire “worlds” devoted to that. There’s a simulation world called Second Life, I believe, where you can be someone else.
I can’t do that. I’ve thought about it, because in a way, it’s sort of like pretending, but I can’t. Because it’s not real.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I can’t be someone else on the computer and be a follower of Jesus in real life. I will be a follower of Jesus in real life, and in the virtual world, because that is real. That is truth.
Follow Him. He is the way.
If you know me online, then you know me in real life. I will not say anything through a computer that I won’t say to you in person. I trust that you are the same way.
