First Book Review is Pending

In two days, I’ve read 3 books, and am currently on a fourth. I’ve read the first 3 books in the “Time Quartet” by Madeline L’Engle. These are A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, and A Swiftly Tilting Planet. I’m currently working on Many Waters. I think I will wait to give my review of them until I have completed this one.

My problem with reading books is the same problem I have with reading different blogs (like BooMama and Rocks In My Dryer) and online forums (like Family Life), or watching a TV series (like “Mad About You“) on DVD, or to some extent, quilting even. I get so involved in the characters and the plots that it consumes me. I have to read it, I have to see the end.

The problem is, things like laundry and dishes get ignored. Does anyone else suffer from this obsession to the point of oblivion? How do you focus on many things instead of one thing?

Hugs,
Melinda

P.S. Have I mentioned how much I dislike computers, but how grateful I am for the “autosave” feature in Blogger?

  1. YES! I have a problem with obsession until I’m finished, too. Yes, absolutely. A year or so ago, it was watching the Alias series on DVD. And various books as well as blogging have taken up my time (to the detriment of my housework and time with kids). These days I try to put a time limit on myself — I mostly just blog or read during my kids’ naptime each afternoon, and I will watch movies or series while I’m folding laundry. Of course, this makes my laundry take FOREVER because I get caught up in watching, but at least I feel better about watching it! πŸ™‚It really means a lot to Dave for the house to be clean, so I’ve decided that in order to honor him, I HAVE to get the housework done, so kids’ naptime is my ME time — I don’t have to feel guilty if I limit my reading and watching to that time. (I am not always very disciplined, though — I still sneak in other time here and there)
